Tradition. For many of us that word has a "feel-good" meaning, especially around the holidays. We have traditions on what we wear, where we go, and what we eat.
Gayle Holcom's family tradition is to have “Make your own pizza” on Christmas Eve. The kids and grandkids come over and they make dough and sauce, then put out a buffet of ingredients -- all kinds of meats, chopped veggies and, of course, olives and marinated artichokes. And LOTS of cheese. Everyone gets to make their own to their taste. Tia, Gayle's daughter-in-law, took over the tradition a few years ago. There is a hierarchy by age since they make up to 9 separate pizzas. Grandkids get theirs in the oven first, then the hungriest kids (and sometimes Grandpa). Grandma Gayle usually is in the last batch!
If you were in the Conrad household, you would have lasagna for Christmas Eve dinner and eggs benedict for Christmas morning breakfast. Dayle's husband Shane makes the best lasagna EVER. The recipe card is old and worn out and hard to read, but Shane knows what to do. He makes a double batch, which fills a roaster pan and usually weighs around 21 pounds! Needless to say, there is plenty left over. It gets packaged in one-meal proportions and stored in the freezer for great meals throughout the year.
